Presentation:

Just 10 years ago, Étienne Davodeau published The Ignorants: a book that had become a real phenomenon. A comic strip author in the vineyard and a winemaker at Gibrat or Guibert. Who are they ? Two ignorant people! But knowing nothing about it means having everything to discover! How, why and for whom to make books or wine? The answers form the story, lively and joyful, of a cross-initiation... An anniversary edition enhanced by a cross-interview and unpublished photos. Étienne Davodeau and Richard Leroy, the winemaker, look back on this wonderful adventure which continues to this day.

The author:

Étienne Davodeau was born in 1965 and lives in Anjou. In 1985, after studying visual arts in Rennes, and creating the BD Psurde studio, he published the trilogy Les Amis de Saltiel with Dargaud , then Le Constat . Then, at Delcourt, A Few Days with a Liar , The Survival Reflex , and three thrillers: The Glory of Albert , Anticyclone and Those Who Love You . In 2001 he directed Rural! , a real report, where he confirms his choice – uncommon in comics – to place the real world at the heart of his work.

He is also interested in children's comics (he scripted The Adventures of Max & Zoé , drawing by Joub). He produced, with David Prudhomme as drawing artist, the comic strip adaptation of the unique and little-known novel by Georges Brassens, La Tour des miracles . After having published Chute de vélo in the “Aire Libre” collection (Specialized Booksellers Prize 2005), he returned to documentary reporting with Les Mauvaises Gens , which received the 2005 Critics' Grand Prize, the France Info Prize, then in Angoulême the Screenplay Prize and the Audience Prize. Finally, with Kris, he depicted the workers' demonstrations in Brest in 1950 in Un homme est mort , which won the France Info Prize.
