Presentation :

Through the important port and commercial outlets throughout the history that they offer, vineyards and wines play an important part in the history, geography and economy of the Atlantic fringes. The identity of the Atlantic vineyards was forged through the supply basins of the Atlantic ports, towards the English and Dutch markets. Vineyards in the Atlantic perimeter (Bordelais, South-West, Loire, etc.), were then formed over the centuries, close to river outlets, and today constitute heritage objects recognized through labels.
It is also through this history of wine which mixes with that of commercial navigation that the Atlantic islands have known viticulture. They are now trying to take advantage of the island identity to project it onto that of their wines, and thus create a niche effect that attracts tourists and wine lovers alike. This aspect gives new dynamics to these island vineyards, a re-territorialization that all Atlantic vineyards, coastal or further inland, would like to better identify in order to better exist, such as for example the vineyards of the South-West and Bergeracois. , facing the Bordeaux giant.
These new dynamics and trajectories are still taking place within the current framework of redefinition of vineyards linked to global warming.
