Presentation:

The Sancerre terroirs: a geological, cultural and intangible heritage.

The age of the Sancerre vineyard has so far gone relatively unnoticed. Present since Antiquity, viticulture continued there in Merovingian times before flourishing on the Sancerre hills in the Carolingian period. The age of the vineyard is thus remarkable and the Sancerrois is one of the first vineyards still alive in the world. It is an exceptional example of the centuries-old interaction between men and their environment, developed to optimize local resources.
The result is a remarkable spatial stability of the historical vineyard despite the variability of the climate, the geographical limits of the Sancerrois evolving, according to the phases of expansion and retraction of the vineyard, from Groises, in the south, to Savigny-en-Sancerre, in north. This study of the Sancerroise entity over the long term simultaneously offers eight walking routes to discover the vineyard. A free downloadable application will allow you to follow the eight routes described.
