I don't know, because there is no reason. », Pierre Overnoy tells us in this book. So why publish a book of interviews with Peter even if it means sacrificing to the cult of personality?

Because Pierre Overnoy is an exceptional winegrower. Around 1964, he saw the arrival of chemical weedkillers and intuitively sensed their harmful long-term role on soils and natural yeasts. Aware of the great potential of his terroirs, he sets out in search of gentle methods to extract the best from his grapes, in constant search of pure and lively wines giving the most authentic expression of his terroirs. In 1984, he vinified his first wine without sulfur ...

Such an experience had to be told. Friends of Pierre decided and little by little, the interviews carried out during the winter of 2008-2009 provided the material for this book.

In fourteen interviews, Pierre reveals himself, talks about himself, is moved or has fun: family, childhood and youth; the friends, Jacques Néauport, Alain Chapel, Henri Bouvret, and others who have the name Savagnin, Chardonnay, Ploussard, Troussard; the culture of the vine, the breeding of the wine… Sometimes, one wonders if it is not necessary to speak about fatherly feeling and work of education as the relation between Pierre and his ground, his vine and his wines, is so strong , loving, passionate.

This is a book for everyone; testimony of an existence, it will allow some to discover some features of daily life under the Occupation, the painful experience of the Algerian war (interview 1), old stories that have been passed down from generation to generation: Loulou , Zine, Mautué (p. 161) will quickly become the heroes of a bygone era that we see reborn behind words; perhaps Chatard is still looking for his jar with a handle on the left (p. 65), who knows? ... Others will be passionate about the fight against bacteria against malica (p. 104), the fight against lactases, the transformation of ethanol into ethanal (p. 110). When the described process becomes very technical or too complex, an image, "the frog will not attack the ox" (p. 103), clarifies the point: Pierre then becomes an outstanding teacher ...

Here is therefore a fascinating work that will satisfy the many expectations of wine lovers, of those who appreciate the content of a beautiful bottle for the culture it represents, the art of living it reveals, the terroir it exhale.
Black and white photos accompany speech with their play of light and shadow. In this regard, we will not fail to appreciate the splendid portrait of Peter on page 10. Others in color explain the territory of Pupillin, the work in the vineyard, the passage to the flower, etc.

The son of winegrowers in the Jura, Michel Campy began his career as a schoolteacher before pursuing a university degree in natural sciences. he has published hundreds of notes and has been the director of some fifteen university theses. In 2011, Michel Campy, a specialist in the Jura vineyards, co-edited La Parole de Pierre, an important book on viticulture and oenology about Pierre Overnoy.
