The new, updated twenty-fifth anniversary edition of the classic volume.
"Wine is, above all, about pleasure. Those who make it ponderous make it dull . . If you keep an open mind and take each wine on its own terms, there is a world of magic to discover." So wrote the famous oenologist Kermit Lynch in the introduction to Adventures on The Wine Route, his ultimate tour of France, including its cellars. The "magic" of wine is Lynch's subject as he takes the reader on a singular journey through the Loire, Bordeaux, Languedoc, Provence, the northern and southern Rhone, and Burgundy. In Adventures on The Wine Route, every wine lover will find wisdom without the slightest pretense or exaggeration. As Victor Hazan wrote, "In Kermit Lynch's small, true, delightful book there is more understanding about what wine really is than in anything else I have read."
The author:
Kermit Lynch grew up in San Luis Obispo, but his name has become synonymous with French and Italian wines. In 1972, with a $5,000 loan and perhaps a little common sense, this writer/musician opened Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant with thirty-five cases of wine stacked on the floor. Drawn to Old World European wine cultures, Kermit became a national retailer, distributor and importer of authentic wines that express their terroir. Like his close friends, the late food writer Richard Olney and Chez Panisse founder Alice Waters, Kermit's influence endures. He has been so successful in highlighting small artisanal producers that he has won two James Beard awards and has been knighted by the French government with their prestigious "Légion d'Honneur.
