Presentation:
An up-close-and-personal account of 10 winemaking families and their trials, tribulations, and successes. Not just any wine family: Frescobaldi, Gaja, Torres, Perrin, Niepoort, Knoll, and Torres, known and revered the world over. Fiona Morrison was welcomed into the homes of each (along with her photographer) and was able to capture the “behind the scenes” excitement of winemaking in the kind of vivid detail impossible to achieve in a magazine article. A must-read for any wine lover, Fiona offers both intimate portraits and topical insights, as she raises questions about climate change, globalization, how to commercialize a family business, organic trends, and the tricky business of inheritance tax.
The author
Fiona Morrison MW is the recipient of the coveted James Beard Award and the Prix Lanson for her wine writing. Since marrying winemaker Jacques Thienpont in 1997, she has divided her time between Belgium and Bordeaux, helping to make wine and manage their three estates—Le Pin (Pomerol), L'IF (Saint-Emilion), and Château L'Hêtre (Côtes de Castillon). Her free time is spent traveling and writing about wine. Fiona has over 30 years of experience in the fine wine trade on both sides of the Atlantic. She earned her Master of Wine degree in 1994.
