Presentation :
Inaugurated within the framework of the UNESCO Chair “Culture and Traditions of Wine” at the University of Burgundy, the Rencontres du Clos-Vougeot have the major objective of understanding wine as a cultural product, a vector of civilization, of which informed consumption depends a true art of living and a philosophy linked to conviviality and sharing, humanist values if there ever were one.
These sixth Clos Vougeot Meetings, which took place on October 4, 5, 6, 2012, target the theme “Crises, mutations, innovations in the future of the wine world”. Around thirty speakers, national and international, academics or professionals from the world of wine presented the historical developments over the long term in world vitiviniculture. They identified and analyzed the different moments of rupture or crisis that have generated, from Antiquity to the present day, transformations in the ways of producing, selling or consuming wine around the world.
All the historical examples mentioned show that periods of unrest are also those which generate the most decisive innovations in the vineyard and in the cellar. And we see, over the ages, that the mutations and crises of vitiviniculture are in constant interaction with those of societies.
