In the 19th century. a great winemaker, Jacques-Marie Duvault-Blochet helped by his “pleuco-cenometer” and above all by his astonishing intuition. did a remarkable job of observation: owner of Romanée Conti, he was at the head of one of the most beautiful estates in Burgundy, with vines stretching from Santenay to Vosne-Romanée. He reported on his observations of “53 years of studies, experiments and comparisons in a precious work of which today only one original copy remains preserved in the Municipal Library of Dijon, reissued for the first time in 2001 by his descendants, Aubert de Villaine and Henry-Frédéric Roch, co-managers of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.

Today, this second edition, still faithful to the original text, augmented with illustrations, will allow a wide audience to reread it in its integrity: a cult text for many, it surprises with its never-denied modernity.

Of the Harvest is presented as an extract from a more important work. a Treatise on wines, attributed to Jacques-Marie Duvault-Blochet, the trace of which remains untraceable to this day. despite research carried out at the Municipal Library of Dijon and in the rare family archives.

The author:

A large owner of prestigious Burgundy wines with vines stretching from Santenay to Vosne-Romanée, Jacques-Marie Duvault-Blochet became the owner of Romanée Conti in 1869. He is said to be the author of a Treatise on wines of which only this remains. extract published in 1869 at the request of his fellow General Councilors of the Côte d'or.
