Presentation:

Poet, philosopher, author, radio host, and journalist Andrew Jefford lives in France; but buried deep in wine country, what does he miss most? The answer: "Drinking young port. It's the wine-drinking equivalent of zorbing, wingwalking, base jumping... you'll only fully understand it if you've tasted it young, in its 'Ride of the Valkyries' stage, when it leaps out of the glass and sets the screamers on you..."

Andrew is the perfect companion for anyone curious about wine. In this collection of his essays, opinions, and articles, he shares his fascinating observations from half a century of discovery. For Andrew, wine should be listened to and admired, wherever it comes from; old-school pretensions have been turned on their head; stylistic points are disdained; stellar awards dismissed; questions asked…

The author

Andrew Jefford grew up in Norfolk and, after studying at the Universities of Reading and East Anglia, worked initially in publishing and (since 1988) primarily as a wine writer, based successively in the UK, Australia, and France (where he has lived since 2010). He is the author of the influential The New France (2002) and the highly acclaimed Whiskey Island (2004, reissued 2019) about the Scottish island of Islay, as well as Andrew Jefford's Wine Course (2008, reissued 2016).

Jefford writes regular columns for Decanter magazine and The World of Fine Wine. He also posts short pieces on Twitter.
